Here’s Bustopher in one of his rare dry moments from the past few weeks. We have seen phenomenal amounts of rain here in MN lately; something like 16 or 17 of the past 20 days have been wet, and not just a pithy type of rain either, it’s been more like monsoon season in the fair North. I can’t even count how many times I have dumped out my 6″rain gauge. The ground is so deeply saturated that our fire pit becomes a pool each time it rains, drowning worms by the score. The summer drought?? Distant memory. Rainfall amounts have now exceeded most annual totals around the state.
Still, Bustopher insists upon going outside. Although he will hesitate at the cold, wet air that hits him when we open the door, he will dash outside and quickly jump under our four-season porch where he can hide out, stay dry, and scope out his yard for all the meanies he needs to chase away. Sometimes he is out for a long time, and when he returns, he is wet to his knee joints, his tummy is soggy, his feet are a mess and his fur is very damp. He absolutely must wind around your legs too, as if it is his way of drying himself off, or quite possibly garnering much sympathy to his soggy plight. But he has done his ‘job’ and he gets lots of pets and hugs, plus a warm towel to curl up on while he undergoes his cleaning. Soon enough, that white stuff will fly and he won’t be as adventurous. Apparently wet stuff is fine, but that white stuff….hoo boy. It ain’t happenin’ then.
And then there’s Harmon. On this particular morning he was in need of massive amounts of snuggling, but I seriously think his ulterior motive was to rub the heck outta the pencil I was using. I think he has some fixation with erasers. I pick one up to use and he is right there trying to smudge his lip all over it. Relentlessly. While it’s rather comical in nature, it’s somewhat annoying too, but if I am patient with him, he will eventually tire of it and either lay down on my lap, which makes most any task near impossible, or he will go off in search of a warm cozy spot for snoozing. I take what I get from him. He isn’t nearly as needy as Bustopher when it comes to attention, so if he’s asking, I am all for it.
Weekend Cat Blogging is being hosted at the Tuxedo Gang Hideout which makes my lil’ tuxedo guy Bustopher really excited. Head on over there to see photos of handsome tuxies, and all the other fancy felines turning up for the festivities.

That photo of Harmon is so adorable – he’s trying so hard to rub up against the eraser. The worst thing is when you are trying to write and they feel the need to bump the pen around … cute but after a while, quite frustrating!
Your cat and the pencil thing reminds me of when my cat used to do that. Everytime I had a writing utensil she’d find a way to get up by me to rub her head on it and then nuzzle it with the tip of her mouth!
Cute!
Your pumpkin bar story had me lol!
Oh and we need to talk girlfriend….GREY:S!!!!
