I am no stranger to surgery under general anesthesia; in the past three years I have undergone three abdominal surgeries, one requiring three days in the hospital, to help alleviate a chronic problem. But this surgery is different; it’s on my face, specifically my nose. And that terrifies me.
I have a deviated septum which will be corrected, and also my breathing passages will be cleared out. A history of sinus infections can cause calcification and this also impedes breathing. The surgery is simple, and common, and should be over in about 45 minutes. When it’s done and I am all healed up, I should be breathing splendidly, and thankfully, sleeping a lot better. I focus on this aspect of it, not the pain, discomfort and copious amounts of my body’s red stuff that I am told I will deal with; when I think too much about that, I want to run and hide.
So last night, as I faced a ‘last meal’ of sorts, since anesthesia makes you thoroughly want to avoid food for a while, I really wanted something delicious that would soothe me. I opted for my favorite Curry Chicken (recipe here).
It was perfect for what I needed. Tender chicken in a thick peanutty sauce, tart with lime juice and topped with mint and cilantro. Our weather has turned much colder and the wind is a-howlin’; and as December is right around the corner, apparently so is the snow. We should get our first measurable snowfall this weekend.
Something odd happened when I cut into the lime to make wedges; somehow it just looked so lovely I had to photograph it.
Limes are lovely, aren’t they?
I have plenty of posts waiting for the week ahead when I won’t be cooking much so I won’t be too conspicuously absent. Wish me luck.

Good luck with the surgery – hope the recovery is uneventful.
Good luck with your surgery. Our Daddy had that done and breathes a lot better. Mommy says to take your pain pills regularly and not wait until the pain is overwhelming the way Daddy did. Also, they didn’t tell Daddy that he wouldn’t be able to breathe out of his nose at all right afterwards, so that kinda freaked him out. So breathe through your mouth, take your pills, and take lots of naps. Okay? Purrrrrrrrrrrrr
I know everything will go well, Kate. And I’m sure you dear hubby will pamper you well when you return home. Sending good thoughts your way, susan.

Good luck with the surgery, Kate. I wish I could e-mail you some chicken soup for your recovery. Alas, the technology isn’t quite there yet…
