The world of food blogs is an amazing one, and after two years of being part of it I can rightfully attest to the tight bonds formed among those with a passion for cooking and sharing their experiences.
I haven’t been blessed with meeting too many bloggers in person, but I know that if I did, we could sit down and kill a huge chunk of time conversing like old friends; you see, when you follow someone’s blog for any length of time, you really begin to know and understand who they are. That’s why it’s been such a sorrowful and shocking week since I learned of the untimely death of Sher from the food blog What Did You Eat?
I learned of her death through a post on Facebook by Kalyn of Kalyn’s Kitchen. Sher was one of the very first bloggers to link to my site when I took up blogging in June of 2006. We connected through comments about food, and our mutual love of cats and participation in Weekend Cat Blogging. On a rare occasion we would share emails about techniques, ingredients or simply something quirky that happened with our feline friends. Sher especially was fond of Harmon, and her comments about him just warmed my heart.
There are several dedications posted for Sher, including one by her husband Bob on her site. Glenna of A Fridge Full of Food was Sher’s close friend, and a loving tribute to her can be found on her site. You can also go to Kalyn’s site on Sunday July 27th to see her memorial to Sher, who was a regular contributor to Kalyn’s Weekend Herb Blogging. Many bloggers loved Sher who had a compassion for animals, good food and her cats, relating it all in blog posts that were humorous, insightful and entertaining. I will deeply miss reading of her cats escapades, how she was raising the orphaned baby squirrels as a Wildlife Rehabilitator and her delicious fixation on meatballs and all things food.
We will miss you Sher, may you rest in eternal peace and joy.

She is missed so badly already by all of us.
I barley can imagine WHB or WCB without her.
I understand that you are not posting a WCB out of respect to our dear friend tho I was hoping you’d do as we are dedicating this edition of WCB to her ’cause she was such a constant member of the WCB community,
sending love and hugs to you and the kitties
Astrid
I do hope Sher would have been pleased to know there were so many people with loving feelings for her. I still can’t really believe it.
I am so sorry, Kate.
I am saddened by the passing of Sher too. My cat Kitikata is saddened too. We too are going to miss Sher’s wonderful food adventures, and we are going to miss the wonderful cat and squirrel adventures over the weekends.
[...] are very glad that Kate and her two lovely boys Harmon and Bustopher (the one who loves pnutbutr) join us in honoring Sher. [...]
I never knew Sher nor had been on her blog, but somehow I read on another person’s blog about her passing and it just made me sad. i spent 45 minutes on her blog catching up on old posts. looking at that last post, only a day or so before she died just saddened me. we don’t all know each other, but you do form some weird bond just being a part of this small blogging world. Rest in peace, sher! very nice tribute, kate.
Amen and a wonderful tribute Kate.
I know that the two of you had common interests and were close. This is such a lovely tribute, Kate. I am touched by all of the kindness there is in our food blogging world!
Thanks for posting this, Kate. I’ve been working my way down my list of favorite blogs, trying to catch up a bit from being out of the blog loop for a while. I hadn’t gotten down to What Did You Eat? yet to see the news posted there.
Its strange feel such loss over someone I’ve never met, we only commented back and forth. Sher had an obvious passion that will be missed.
